Beginning of production of these components dates back to 1952. At this time development of ATE brake discs was launched in Frankfurt am Main. These later became a significant part of company’s sales volume. The parts belong to the premium segment and are produced in Germany, the Czech Republic and other countries. ATE brand belongs to Continental AG concern which has 400 branches in 56 countries around the world. In 2016 the manufacturer was the first on the aftermarket to offer discs for Mercedes С and Е classes.

Types

According to design the components are divided into 2 types:

vented,
non-vented.

Non-vented discs are made of solid dies. Such products don’t have hollow channels for heat dissipation, due to which they are characterized by low heat output. They are installed, as a rule, on the rear axle, where loads are less intensive. Non-vented components are cast and thus more wear-resistant, which positively influences their service life.

Vented components are shaped as 2 connected discs with radial cavities between them. Air passes through them and cools the components. Elements which connect disc surfaces function also as an impeller, allowing to draw in more air during movement. Due to constant cooling vented discs are more effective compared to regular ones.

You can also buy ATE brake discs with perforation. These can be drilled or slotted. Drilling improves components efficiency but lowers their wear-resistance. Drilled products perform greatly even in difficult conditions because their surface structure helps to remove gases and products of burning.

Components with a special coating made of high-strength alloy are included in the brand product range. Such discs feature increased resistance to corrosion and high temperatures.
