Compact Opel Astra cars are produced since 1991 and gain undying popularity nowadays. Right now assembling of these vehicles is performed in China, Poland and Great Britain. While earlier this model cars were manufactured in Germany, Belgium, Hungary, India and other countries.  In 1992 the car won “Semperit Irish Car of the Year” award, which was organized by Irish Motoring Writers Association (IMWA). In 1994 and 1995 the car was awarded “South African Car of the Year” from South African Guild of Motoring Journalists. The twins of this car are Verano, Buick Excelle, HSV VXR, Chevrolet Vectra, Chevrolet Viva and same-named models from Vauxhall, Holden, Chevrolet, Saturn.

History of Opel Astra cars

This model is presented by 5 generations and 3 restyled versions. The first generation, F, debuted in September, 1991. The car became successor of Opel Kadett. Name changing was connected to rebranding: the manufacturing company assigned all models new names, ending with “A”. The car became available in such body versions as 3- and 5-door hatchbacks, sedan, station wagon and van. Moreover, cabriolet Astra was created in collaboration with Gruppo Bertone company in Italy.

The new generation, G, became available since 1998. They were the first brand’s car with completely zinc-coated body and 12-year perforation corrosion warranty. In 2002, the coupe was added to the range of available bodies.

Production of H generation started in 2004. The manufacturer presented unusual modification – 3-door sport hatchback Opel Astra GTC (Gran Turismo Compact). The panoramic windshield was one the standard options in one of its configurations.

The fourth generation, J, was presented in 2009. Its feature was rear suspension with Watt’s link mechanism, which provides high transversal stability. The manufacturer abandoned usage of van body.

Features of Opel Astra K cars

World premiere of K generation took place at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt am Main in September, 2015. Firstly, only 5-door hatchback was available, but later, station wagon was added to bodies line.

Appearance of the fifth generation car became expressive and sportive, thanks to presence of relief lines on the body. Moreover, if earlier its radiator grille was decorated with chromed plate resembling a “smile”, now the decorative element got more austere shape. The radiator grille became larger, while the bumper one, on the contrary, – compact. The fog lights which were round before, now resemble rectangles with rounded corners. Shape of these optical elements frames also changed. Outer mirrors of the new Opel Astra were moved onto the doors.

The list of additional options for this car includes many useful systems. Thus, OnStar service is available; it helps to control some car functions using a smartphone. Moreover, in case of a road accident this system is able to independently transmit information to emergency services.

The manufacturer also offers to equip the car with parking assistant, speed limiter, Navi 900 navigation system, and AirWellness – cabin aromatization system. Driving through busy roads you can't do without the assistant, helping to maintain optimal distance to a vehicle, moving in advance.
