The Porsche 911 sports cars have been produced since 1963 in Stuttgart, Germany. In 2015, the Car and Driver American magazine named this vehicle the best sports car in the market.
The background of Porsche 911
The model is represented by seven generations and three facelifts. The available car body styles are coupe, convertible and targa. The first generation was produced from 1963 until 1973. The exterior of the car was developed by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, the grandson of the brand founder, and the Austrian designer Erwin Komenda.
The G-Modell generation was manufactured in 1973-1989. The manufacturer started to use larger bumpers which were capable of protecting the car body from minor hits. The 964 cars that rolled off the assembly line between 1988 and 1994 were equipped with the anti-lock braking system and power steering as standard. Today, they are still popular in the used-car market.
The vehicles marked as 993 entered the production in 1993. These were the last versions of the model which were equipped with air-cooled engines; the later ones had the liquid cooling system. In 1997, the 996 cars were launched: they could be fitted with the Porsche Stability Management (PSM) and a navigation system.
The 997 were produced from 2004 until 2012. At that time the manufacturer started to use LEDs for the lighting: in the taillights, daytime running lights and braking lights. The cars were equipped with bi-xenon headlights as standard. Due to the use of improved DFI (direct fuel injection) engines, the maker succeeded in reducing fuel consumption.
The 991 generation started to be produced in 2011. The new car became the world’s first mass production vehicle equipped with a seven-speed manual transmission. In 2015, the facelift was introduced.
The features of the Porsche 911 (the 991, facelift)
The debut of the car took place at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt am Main. As before, the 911 convertible, coupe and targa are available. Distinctive features of the exterior are four LEDs in each headlight and a grille with vertical bars at the rear of the car body. It is intended to guide hot air away from the running engine.
The multi-function steering wheel is now fitted with a switch for choosing one of the four driving modes: Normal, Sport, Sport Plus, Individual. This makes it possible to adjust the engine, transmission and chassis according to the vehicle operating conditions and your driving manner.
The brand’s Entry & Drive system is offered as an option. Thanks to it, the passenger and luggage compartments can be remotely opened. Besides, it is possible to order the BOSE Surround Sound system with 12 speakers and a built-in subwoofer.
