Open end spanners are used for demounting hex-head fasteners. They have open U-shaped opening and grip the components from 2 or 3 sides. It allows to work even if access to fastener is complicated. The products are generally made of tool steel, have a simple construction and cost inexpensively.

Types

Devices differ from one another by:

  • Size of the opening. This index can be 4, 20, 36, 55 mm, etc.

  1. You should take into account diameter of the part. Particularly, too large tool can damage it.
  2. You should not use the accessory if it is deformed or has shears. Both gripping parts should be parallel to each other.
  3. You should not make much efforts when working. Otherwise fastening edges can be torn off and the tool itself broken down.
  4. If the threaded connection is heavily corroded, it is not recommended to use the open end spanner. Demounting of this element is easier to perform with the help of ring type tool.
