The BMW X1 is a compact crossover whose production started in 2009 and is still going on. The cars are manufactured in Germany, India, Brazil, China, the Netherlands, Thailand, Indonesia and Russia. In 2010, the vehicle was voted “Off-Roader of the Year” according to the results of the Off-Road magazine readers’ poll. The same year, the car was honoured with the world famous Red Dot Design Award for its stylish design.
The History of the BMW X1
Two generations of the model and a facelifted version were created. The car of the first generation, the E84, was introduced as a concept car at the 2008 Paris Motor Show and in 2012 more than three hundred thousand vehicles were sold. The X1 became the company’s first crossover with rear-wheel-drive. The manufacturer paid special attention to safety: according to the results of the Euro NCAP crash test results which took place in 2011, the model of the first generation got an excellent mark.
At the New York International Auto Show in 2012, the company unveiled the updated version of the BMW X1 crossover (E84). The shape of the bumper grille was redesigned and the bumper itself became more textured. It positively affected the exterior since the car started to look more impressive. As for the interior, the upholstery became available in several colours.
Several special versions of the updated model were created including the Powder Ride Edition intended for people with an active lifestyle. The car is fitted with a roof luggage carrier, ski and snowboard bag.
The Features of the BMW X1 (F48)
The debut of the F48 generation took place at the International Auto Show, in Frankfurt am Main in September 2015. The SDrive versions of the car are with the front-wheel-drive while the xDrive range comes with four-wheel drive. Model with the base trim is fitted with 17-inch light-alloy wheels and LED lighting.
The length of the body is 4439 mm and its width is 1829 mm. Due to its relatively small size, it is convenient to drive the car even in the city. At the same time, the passenger compartment is quite spacious thanks to the body height which is 1598 mm. Besides, all seats including rear ones can be adjusted. The panoramic sunroof available as an additional option can make the cabin look even bigger.
The BMW X1 cars are fitted with a large boot whose capacity can be increased due to the folding rear seats up to 1550 l. The car is equipped with an onboard computer, stereo system with 6 speakers and full-colour 6.5-inch control display. There is an optional navigation system called Navigation Plus which can be controlled with the help of the iDrive multimedia controller.
Additionally, you can also equip your car with a rearview camera as well with the Drive Assistant which includes the high-beam control system and the system that warns of collisions and others. Moreover, in the list of additional options, you can find the parking assistant.
