Lexus ES saloon is produced since 1989 till present. The cars roll off the production lines in Japan and the USA. In 2004, 2005 and 2007 the saloon was awarded “Best Overall Value” by experts of “Intellichoice” project. In 2006, “Consumer Reports” magazine included the model into the list of the most reliable cars. In Japan this vehicle is known as Toyota Windom. Also, Toyota Camry and Toyota Vista are twins of this model.

History of Lexus ES cars

The model is represented by 6 generations and 5 restyled versions. The first generation, launched in 1989, got V20 index. The car was notable for the use of natural wood in interior trimming, power windows, and Pioneer sound system with 6 speakers.

The second generation, XV10, started in 1991. New Lexus ES cars had an improved aerodynamics: the drag coefficient was 0.32. The keyless entry system and sound system with 8 speakers were among the available options. Black walnut was used for central console trimming.

The third generation cars, XV20, were produced since 1996. The novelty got the Lexus Optitron electroluminescent instrument panel. Basic features list included heated outer mirrors and climate control. Power sunroof and Nakamichi sound system were offered at extra charge.

The fourth generation, which appeared in 2001, had XV30 index. New car’s distinctive features included floor lighting, power blinds for the rear window, and also the function of side mirrors auto-tilting at reverse speed activation. The navigation DVD system and Mark Levinson premium stereo sound system were available at extra charge.

The fifth generation, XV40, debuted in 2006. The standard equipment list included the Lexus SmartAccess keyless entry and push button start system. Moreover, ES saloon was standardly equipped with 8 airbags, adaptive cruise control and the Lexus Park Assist system.

Premiere of the sixth generation, XV60, took place in 2012. The modification with hybrid engine became available. One of the distinctive features of the new generation car was the Remote touch joystick used for infotainment system control. 1-year trial version of Lexus Enform system was offered as standard. It allowed to get assistance by simple button pressing in case of a road accident or feeling sick during the trip, it helped to find the car in case of theft, and had also some other features.

Features of restyled Lexus ES XV60

Design of the sixth generation car was renewed in 2015. Debut of the restyled saloon took place on Auto Shanghai. The radiator grille became larger, the headlights with built-in daytime running lights got a sophisticated shape. At the rear, the restyled saloon Lexus ES can be recognized by L-shaped stop signals. Externally, the hybrid car was distinguished by the blue background of the brand emblem.

The car is equipped with Drive Mode Select system, which helps to choose optimal driving mode. Also Lexus Safety System+ is available, which includes functions of detecting vehicles and pedestrians in the path of the car, lane departure alert, intelligent high-beam headlamps. Lexus Enform service set allows to remotely obtain information about car condition, for example, about kilometerage and fuel level. Moreover, it allows to remotely find car on the parking, lock or unlock the doors, start the engine.
