Diagnostics of speedometer cable
For checking if the speedometer cable works correctly you should first demount the dashboard. This will allow to get to the speedometer. After that, take the cable and swing it for some time. During this, carefully look at the speedometer arrow. If the cable is intact, the arrow will move without jerks, according to efforts, which are applied for cable swiveling. Otherwise, the item is damaged and needs to be replaced.
Repair and replacement of speedometer cable
The cable cannot be repaired if damaged. Its replacement must be done. For this you will need to do the following:
- Take the steering column covers off, previously unscrewing their fasteners
- Demount ignition switch rubber seal
- Unbend clips, which hold the dashboard, and take the dashboard off from the mounting seat (this will open free access to speedometer)
- Disconnect non-working cable from speed-reduction gearing by unscrewing a fixing bolt
- Unscrew a hold-down nut, which connects the cable with the speedometer
- Connect a new cable
- Assemble the dashboard
