The SsangYong Korando vehicles were produced from 1988 until 2006. In 2010, the production resumed and continues to this day. The assembly carried out at the company's plants in South Korea, Russia, Ukraine, Sri Lanka, and Brazil. This model has been produced longer than any other Korean cars, and that fact is noted in the Guinness Book of Records. Among the twin cars, there is another model of the brand called Actyon, a namesake vehicle by Daewoo, and the SUV Tagaz Tager.
The history of SsangYong Korando
There are three generations and two facelifts of the model. The first generation was a three-door SUV and, actually, was an analogue of the Jeep CJ7. Starting from 1983, the Korando was built by the Geohwa company, which later became the property of the Dong-A Motor Corporation. In 1988, the latter got its today’s name SsangYong Motor.
The second generation was produced from 1996 to 2006. SUVs with hard or soft tops were available for customers. As before, the vehicle was all-wheel drive and had an independent suspension. The prominent features of the exterior were a large grille, closely located round headlamps, sculptured body parts.
In 2010, the C200 five-door crossovers were released. They got narrow headlights, a polygonal grille with large cells, black bumpers and wheel arch trims. The body became more streamlined, and there were roof rails. Six airbags were installed as standard. Both all-wheel drive and front-wheel drive versions were offered.
After the 2013 facelift, the radiator grille began to occupy the entire space between the headlights, visually forming a single unit with them. Its chrome frame was replaced with a black one. Daytime running lights were used for the first time.
The features of SsangYong Korando (the C200, II facelift)
The production of the facelifted crossover started in 2017. Now, its front part is decorated with curved chrome elements, the bumper has a large air intake. As before, the cars have bulging wheel arches with black trims.
The manufacturer provides an intelligent four-wheel drive, ABS, electronic stability programme and auto emergency braking. The standard equipment of the crossovers includes front airbags, front and rear parking sensors. The higher trim levels have air conditioning and heated seats, the top one includes interior elements trimmed with leather and a GPS sat nav.
