Popular Kia Rio car is produced since 2000 till present. Earlier, the model was manufactured in South Korea, Ecuador and Iran. Today, apart from South Korea, the car is coming off the conveyor in Mexico and Algeria. In 2011 the car was awarded “Continental Irish Car of the Year” from Irish Motoring Writers Association and got “Car of the Year” award from “Carsguide” magazine. Moreover, the car got maximally possible quantity of stars in Euro NCAP crash-tests. In 2017 the model was marked with prestigious “Red Dot Design Award” and “iF Design Award”. In China, the analogous car – K2, was sold, and in South Korea – Pride and New Pride.

History of Kia Rio cars

The model is presented by four generations and three restyled versions. The first generation was produced since 2000 till 2005 and had DC index (SF – after restyling on the North Korean market). The cars were released in body versions of sedan and 5-door station wagon. Technical equipment of Rio differed according to a country of marketing. For instance, for the Greek market the cars with ABS, alarm system and leather interior upholstery were offered. Restyling of the model took place in 2002 and included modernization of the suspension and brake system. As for exterior, changes mostly affected the front body part. The bonnet got decorative lines, accenting the headlights. The latter, in their turn, got orange glasses of the turn indicators and became more compact. The radiator grille increased and lost decorative framing.

Production of JB generation started in 2005, and it underwent restyling in 2009. The manufacturer replaced the station wagon with a 5-door hatchback. The power steering, air-conditioner, CD-player were included in extended configurations. Modification with Tanabe shock absorbers and Eibach sport suspension springs came to sale in 2008.

UB generation was produced in 2011–2017. Kia Rio hatchback was added to the line of available body versions. They start to equip the cars with the immobilizer, trip-computer, emergency brake warning system. Moreover, the climate system and headlights were modernized.

Features of Kia Rio YB

The fourth generation of the model, YB, was presented on Paris Motor Show in 2016, and came to the market next year. The car is produced in body versions of a sedan and 5-door hatchback. The car has longer front overhang and enlarged bonnet. The headlights became elongated and the radiator grille got narrowed. The big bumper grille was visually divided into three parts. The round fog lights and strips of the daytime running lights are mounted in the two of them. The rear lights create the impression of a solid construction, thanks to their unusual shape.

The manufacturer provided many additional options for maximally comfortable trips. Particularly, Rio hatchback can be equipped with the climate control and Idle Stop & Go system, which helps to rationally consume fuel during driving in traffic jams. You will never decline from the set route thanks to the navigation system including 7-inch touchscreen and voice control function.

The stability control system, hill start assist and lane keeping system are responsible for car safety. Moreover, the model is equipped with ABS and six airbags.
