Production of Kia Sorento started in 2002 and still continues. At different times assembling of these cars was performed in South Korea, Malaysia, the USA, Kazakhstan, Russia. In 2009 the car was proclaimed the best in its class according to version of “NZ Autocar” magazine. In 2011 the car got the highest rating passing Euro NCAP and ANCAP crash-tests.

History of Kia Sorento

The manufacturer produced three generations and three restyled versions. The first generation, JC, started in 2002, was presented by SUVs. They were developed in accordance with preferences of European customers. The cars presupposed the audio-system with CD-player and eight speakers, height-adjustable driver seat and air-conditioner. Moreover, leather interior trimming, heating of the front seats, upgraded audio-system with ten speakers and CD-changer, power sunroof were offered as additional options for Kia Sorento cars.

XM generation debuted in 2009 and was presented by crossovers. A new car got Kia brand radiator grille, called “Tiger Nose”. Dual-zone climate control with function of air ionization, cruise control, systems of emergency brake warning and parking assist were offered for extended configurations.

The third generation, UM, is available since 2014. Sorento crossover became 95 mm longer, and total length was 4780 mm. The car became 5 mm wider and reached 1890 mm. At the same time height of the car became smaller by 20 mm and then equaled 1690 mm. Minimal volume of the luggage compartment increased from 564 to 660 liters. The manufacturer also offered 7-seat cars. Standard options for some configurations were ventilation and heating of the front seats, Rear Cross Traffic Alert system (RCTA). The restyled crossover debuted in 2017.

Features of restyled Kia Sorento UM cars

The renewed car was presented on International Motor Show in Frankfurt am Main. The polygonal fog lights of the restyled crossover were replaced with round ones. The lower line of the radiator grille got a small bend. GT Line configuration is now easily recognizable by the LED fog lights and red brake calipers.

The manufacturer took care of technical equipment of Kia Sorento crossover. Thus, VSM system promotes increasing of vehicle roadholding stability, as, for instance, during maneuvering. Hill-start Assist Control prevents wheels skidding during hill start.

Extended configurations include PA-PRL system, which helps at parking, and Lane Keeping Assist serving for keeping of the car on the set driving lane. Smart Cruise Control is irreplaceable for urban trips. It automatically maintains safety distance to a vehicle moving in front.

The car is equipped with 8-inch touchscreen multimedia system, and Kia Connected Services provides access to all the information, which can be necessary during driving. Thanks to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto systems, integration of a smartphone into the car is possible.
